Chapter One
Have a Plan and Work the Plan
Regardless of the difficulty level or the personal significance of a dream, we are more likely to set and achieve our goals if we write them down. For this reason, it remains the fundamental rule of goal setting.
Rule #1: Write down your goals.
Written goals have a higher chance of being achieved. I believe that goal setting involves creating a plan and executing it diligently. As life sometimes unfolds, the blueprint may not work as intended. However, by keeping a written plan and following it closely, something positive may arise when you least expect it.
Whether you opt for a traditional paper notebook, a smartphone, a tablet notes app, or desktop word processing software, write your goals down simply, clearly, and concisely. It is a contract between you and yourself. Therefore, treat it as such by signing and dating your plan.
Rewrite and edit as necessary until you feel comfortable with the language and format. Please write it down, read it often, and revise whenever necessary or practical. Life changes — therefore, the written plan that guides it needs to change as well.
